News from the European Consumer Debt Net: End 2016 Conference, news members and new coordinator
In 2016 The coordination of ECDN was taken over by Bulgarian partner Centre Innovation and Development. Since April 1st, 2016 ECDN has a new coordination office. The task of coordinating the different activities of ECDN will Centre Innovation and Development be fulfilled by the (CID) at the University of Economics-Varna (UEV).The CID was established in 2013 and is led by Director Assoc. Prof Dr. Bistra Vassileva. The main tasks of the coordination office will be to organize the communication activities and tasks of ECDN, document and database management as well as preparation of meetings and conferences.

Also, at the ECDN Management Committee meeting in Sofia on Friday, November 11, 2016 five membership applications were positively decided.
  • The Irish Debt Counselling organisation FINGLAS CABRA MABS: The organisation provides a free professional, client orientated and accessible Money Advice and Budgeting Service to the people of the Finglas and Cabra areas especially those on low income, empowering them to regain control of their personal finances and in co-operation with the local community to develop measures addressing the problems of over-indebtedness.
  • The Danish organisation Den Sociale Retshjælps Fond (The Social Legal Aid Foundation): The debt counselling is addressing those people who have lost perspective over their economic situation, and who wish to ‘get back on track’ and have produced a plan of action. The DSRF contacts creditors and is trying to sign an agreement for/ or with the client, in order to prepare an overview of the client’s budget. Furthermore, the DSRF tries to enlighten clients by a free case handling, including assistance with debt relief, bailiff’s court, account for the client’s solvency, proposals to instalment agreements et cetera.
  • The Swedish debt counselling organization Yrkesföreningen för budget- och skuldrådgivare i kommunal tjänst: This is a non-political professional organisation for operating budget and debt counselors in municipal services. The goals are to work for a strenghted professional role and education for all collegues. Every year they organize an educational conference. Invitations go out to all members, collaborative partners, politicians, various social actors and guest speakers.
  • The Bulgarian organisation ITBH Limited: ITBH works at a local level in consumer protection field. ITBH team includes professionals and experts from different consumer-related fields. The main activities of ITBH are focused on consulting on consumer rights, consumer-focused research, mystery shopping services.
  • The Dutch Gemeentelijke Kredietbank: The main tasks of the organisation are debt settlement, prevention of over-indebtedness and social credit. The Kredietbank works for 22 cities in the northern part of The Netherlands.
