German press fights consumer information |
While iff's long-term database on consumer information through law and newspaper articles, once sponsored by the EU-Commission as an outstanding example of consumer information about malpractice in financial services, is now under the attack of the German newspapers F.A.Z. and Süddeutsche Zeitung, the public discussion whether the press itself retains the monopoly of deciding who and about what the public should be informed is increasingly necessary. The Pirate Party is now quoted to have an electorate of about 9% in Germany and the EU discusses in a high-level group freedom and pluralism of the media while its protection from the property rights of the media seems still to be secondary.
Negative experiences of media power, excessive freedom and unsocial practices are not currently a feature of debates. See Date: 11/10/2011 : Digital Agenda: high-level group to discuss freedom and pluralism of the media across the EU.
